Job Summary / Description:
Job Summary (LG 4/5 equivalent):
To serve as an engineering resource for conducting additive manufacturing production and development activities, researching and implementing advanced additive manufacturing materials, technologies, and applications, mentoring early career professionals for advanced additive manufacturing-related projects in support of ULA programs and influencing the adaptation of additive manufacturing compared to traditional manufacturing methods.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):
• Execute metal additive manufacturing production and research tasking under the guidance of project and task leads. Conduct materials, process, and application development activities related to additive manufacturing.
• Perform hands-on R&D and evaluation of advanced materials, methods, and technologies related to additive manufacturing systems. Identify novel and innovative applications for additive manufacturing materials and technologies to generate new business opportunities. Develop “best practices” for additive manufacturing systems.
• Assist with new additive manufacturing investment activities, including assessing and recommending AM systems, championing procurements, preparing facilities, and performing machine installations and related commissioning activities.
• Develop or assist in creating proposals, internal research and development (IRAD) submissions and project estimates as required to secure new work.
• Provide ongoing mentoring to early career professionals to accelerate their learning of AM technologies and processes.
• Act as a resource to influence the adaptation of AM (both polymer & inconel) products into new designs for development programs

Required Qualifications:
• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated experience executing AM-related work.
• Ability to work independently or with others, exercising good technical judgment and interpersonal skills to work as a member of a diverse team.
• Ability to manage multiple simultaneous challenging technical tasks.
Desired Qualifications:
• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent, with more than ten (10) years of experience related to fabrication of advanced materials and structures, with 5 (5) years using additive manufacturing, especially laser-based metal powder bed fusion additive manufacturing technologies.
• Hands-on experience calibrating, running, and maintaining such systems.
