Stress Engineer II (Fatigue & Damage Tolerance)

Description:
Position Summary: Under the direction of the Engineering manager, supervisor or lead this position will work with the Engineering team to ensure successful integration by providing stress analysis on engineering designs for components, systems and products using mathematical formulas and computer-aided engineering (CAE) systems. The Stress Engineer II will work both independently as well as part of a team to complete specific projects related to both commercial and military aircraft components to determine stress requirements of a product. Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Fatigue & Damage Tolerance Engineer II will work with a low level of supervision and must rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals while performing a variety of complex tasks in the following areas:

Perform fatigue and damage tolerance assessment of metallic structure
Make analytical fatigue life predictions
Perform crack growth and residual strength analysis using NASGRO
Develop fatigue spectrums and support fatigue and damage tolerance testing
Make recommendations on design improvements related to fatigue and damage tolerance
Analyzes engineering designs, schematics, and customer specifications to determine stress requirements for a product.
Formulates mathematical analysis or finite element model of product.
Prepare preliminary stress analysis reports and provide information to supervisor or lead.
Capable of airframe structural analysis for fatigue stresses.
Perform structural analysis on conceptual layouts as well as detail components.
Consult with Design Engineer to assess design modifications of product based on results of analysis.
Will focus primarily on existing products and processes.
Ability to perform classical hand stress calculations, finite element analysis utilizing finite element software such as NASTRAN or ANSYS.
Participates with other staff to contribute to project completion.

Qualifications & Skills Requirements:

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of 5-9 years of experience in the Aerospace Industry or in a related field.
Intermediate knowledge of finite element modeling, and familiarity with MS Office products.
Basic knowledge of CATIA V5, NASTRAN, and NASGRO.
Physical Requirements: Individual must be able to sit for extended periods of time, working at a desk and/or attending meetings. May occasionally require employee to stand and/or walk and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Will need to be able to move throughout the office and talk/hear or otherwise communicate with other employees and management. Work will be performed in an office environment.
