Job Duties:

• Perform research and surveys to determine the best methods to modify aircraft to accomplish project statements of work.
• Design new mechanical parts, assemblies and installations defining aircraft modifications.
• Perform analysis and substantiation of new parts and installations.
• Produce engineering drawings, reports, material lists and work instructions to document & install aircraft modifications.
• Provide engineering checks of data produced by peer groups or other project participants.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing and installation of aircraft modifications.
• Interface with customers, suppliers and other project stakeholders pertaining to modification projects.
• Provide guidance and oversight to engineering peer group, and mentor new engineers to operate within departmental practices and procedures.
• Provide statements of work, cost estimates, completion schedules and other project administrative inputs.
• Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

Qualifications:

• B.S. in engineering or related scientific field. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
• Three (3) years overall work experience, two (2) of which in a design engineering role.
• Must have strong computer skills and demonstrate proficiency with 2D/3D CAD systems and MS Office programs.
• Must have strong knowledge of aircraft mechanical/structural design processes, materials, fabrication methods and aerospace hardware.
• Must possess working knowledge of substantiation techniques and FAA regulatory requirements.
• Must be able to effectively utilize aircraft continued airworthiness data.
• Must be organized and an effective project manager, presenting good communication skills and a professional appearance. Preferred:
• Knowledge of aircraft interiors, composites and entertainment systems.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

Airframe Design Engineer

Description:
HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with engineering and/or manufacturing development of structural parts and assemblies utilizing composite materials.
Experience with the composite part design process, including composites stacking sequence, lamination theory, honeycomb core, bonded assemblies, manufacturing and fabrication processes and post-cure machining operations.
Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 along with tolerance analysis capabilities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Produce airframe structural configuration layouts and detail designs including preliminary sizing, joint layouts, interface boundary definitions of parts and assemblies employing metallic and composite materials.  
Create and maintain CAD solid models and drawings of installations, assembly and detail components that meet all requirements such as structural integrity, interface boundaries, weight and cost targets as directed by the project engineer. Coordinate with members of stress, manufacturing, procurement, quality control and other departments as required to mature the design from conception to production.  
Create documentation to support design decisions and to identify and resolve potential issues. Prepare detail design packages for review, check and release.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited university
Knowledge of 3D Computer Aided Design Program such as CATIA (preferred), w/ a focus on Generative Surface Design, Part Design and Assembly.
Hands on experience working with Carbon Composites, preferably through experience in a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
