We have an exciting opportunity for an Airframe Engineer within our Airframe Design Group at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems. This is an airframe design and analysis position in the Advanced Aircraft Engineering Organization located in San Diego, CA. Under the general direction of Engineering management or IPT lead, serve as a member of the airframe design team providing conceptual and detail designs of primary and secondary structural aircraft components. General responsibilities include leading and coordinating the design activities of a team of 1-5 engineers within an assigned project. Establish and communicate clear task expectations. Primary product lines for design activities will be unmanned aerial vehicles, modification of existing aircraft structures and special projects to support sensor integrations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•Able to self-prioritize tasks. Works under general direction
•Produce airframe structural configuration layouts and detail designs including preliminary sizing/stress analysis, joint layouts, interface boundary definitions of parts and assemblies employing metallic and composite materials.
•Create and maintain CAD solid models and drawings of installations, assembly and detail components that meet all requirements such as structural integrity, interface boundaries, weight and cost targets as directed by the project engineer.
•Periodically review and check the product structure and BOM’s of the team to insure fit, form, function of the structural components is maintained.
•Conduct periodic design reviews as required to ensure designs meet the requirements.
•Coordinate and collaborate with members of stress, manufacturing, procurement, quality control and other departments as required to mature the design from conception to production.  
•Create and maintain documentation that tracks team weekly progress status as it related to the Program budget and deadlines.
•Prepare PowerPoint presentations to support Program PDRs and CDRs.
Provide technical support and mentorship to those less experience members of the team.

Qualifications Essential Qualifications Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education. Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties. Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems. Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects. Able to work extended hours as required. A Professional Engineering License and original work published in professional engineering journals are desirable.

•Provides expertise in tooling design for both large and small composite laminates including primary structure and control surfaces.
•Understands composite tooling theory and the selection of appropriate tooling material for the application and/or production volume required.
•Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems encountered on the production floor with regard to damaged tooling.

Job Description / Responsibilities:

The Mechanical HVAC Engineer will produce moderately-complex technical designs and some analysis mechanical to new and existing facility related systems in support of ULA Atlas V, Delta IV and future Vulcan Launch Operations at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Florida. Experience
•Proficient with CAD (Creo and/or Pro E) and Siemens NX/FiberSIM PLM software
•Working knowledge of composite part design and fabrication methods
•BS in Mechanical Engineering, Composites Engineering or comparable work experience
•Experience working in commercial and/or military aircraft manufacturing environments
•Familiar with composite lamination drawings and process specifications
•Previous hand layup experience with prepreg material is a plus

Job Tasks
•Perform detailed review of composite part CAD model and lamination drawing (solid and honeycomb panel designs)
•Generate surface geometry representing tool and honeycomb core layers, generate boundary curve geometry for individual plies from the applicable CAD models and drawings
•Utilize Siemens NX and FiberSIM PLM software package to produce a composite manufacturing solution for complex parts that abide to engineering process specifications
•Generate Flat Pattern and Laser Projection files using FiberSIM
•Create Powerpoint PlyBook files from Flat Patterns, for use by the Manufacturing Engineering group in lamination work instructions
•Provide support to manufacturing engineering on shop floor when needed

Qualifications Essential Qualifications Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
