Abrams Tank Mechanics

Description:
STS Technical Services is hiring Abrams Tank Mechanics in Killeen, Texas to work for one of our Fortune 500 clients.

In this role, you will work to repair Abrams tanks and troubleshoot all aspects of the engine, communication systems, parts/components. You will also work to provide input to program planning, schedules, and maintenance techniques of the Abrams fleet of vehicles and other traced/wheeled variants. This is a tremendous opportunity to work for a company that holds industry leading standards for defense and also is on the leading edge of an industry boom.

Contract Length: 6+ months

Responsibilities:
Perform preventive maintenance checks and services on variations of the Abrams Tanks (M1A1ED, M1A2SEP V2) as well as familiar with the deprocessing and maintenance tasks on the variations of the Abrams Tanks (M1A1 ED, M1A2 SEP V2) vehicles for the Material Fielding Team (MFT) at Ft. Hood.
Perform troubleshooting specific faults, failures and deficiencies. Provide input to program planning, schedules, and maintenance techniques for the Abrams Fleet Vehicles and other tracked/wheeled vehicles
Read and interpret troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures and flow diagrams for systems, subsystems and components.
Maintain accountability of special tools, test equipment and property.
Required Experience:
1-plus years related experience in truck mechanics with emphasis on the Abrams tank
Must have overall understanding of customer contacts and relationships
Be able to work autonomously with government personnel.
Must be able to gain access to US Military Facilities or bases, including a NACI if required
Must be able to travel away for extended periods.
Efficient knowledge of Microsoft Applications
Required to work at heights, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, able to climb, kneel, stoop, bend and work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
Ability to meet anthropometric size requirements to enter into a drivers station or enclosed military vehicle
Valid Drivers License is required with the ability to get a tank drivers license if required

You'll be responsible for consultation with program management, design engineers, quality, and production teams in order to develop the most efficient and cost effective means of producing our products at the highest level of quality possible. Your technical responsibilities involve reviewing engineering designs for productivity and the development of tooling and fixtures, work instructions, production process and procedures. You will be involved in the application of manufacturing technologies and industry best practices during the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

This position serves dual roles for the coming six months. This person will serve as a primary POC for UDC tail two fabrication efforts serving as lead ME reviewing and approving changes to prints, reviewing supplier MRR's and supporting in NC disposition. The other portion of the role will be in supporting the stand-up of the new composites center. This includes floor plan review, equipment selection, and process plan construction for the qualification of the new facility. After 6-8 months, it is expected to have the position transition to full time support of the composites center as production ramps up. Research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and support cutting edge products & services. These cover a very wide range from state of the art mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll be responsible for consultation with program management, design engineers, quality, and production teams in order to develop the most efficient and cost effective means of producing our products at the highest level of quality possible. Your technical responsibilities involve reviewing engineering designs for productivity and the development of tooling and fixtures, work instructions, production process and procedures. You will be involved in the application of manufacturing technologies and industry best practices during the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

This position serves to be an expert in ground operations equipment. This includes cargo loading equipment, vehicle handling and transportation equipment, and lifting and rigging equipment. This position will support in managing the design and fabrication of this equipment to support manufacturing engineering in execution of ground operations. This is in line with the recent re-organization of the ground ops and GSE teams to drive ownership and accountability for process execution to manufacturing engineering. A review of the work products to be delivered showed an average labor demand of 165 hours per month for the next 1 year in order to absorb necessary work products.

Must-haves:
 Bachelor's of Science degree in related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience
 Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
 Practical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
 Capability working in multi-disciplinary teams

Preferred:
 Familiarity in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
 Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
 Knowledge of industry standard design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processes
 Experience with work instruction/traveler development
 Participation in dispositions of Non-Conformance generation through a Material Review Board (MRB)
 Experience with new product introduction and transition to production
 Exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems

MUST BE US PERSONS
MUST have successfully completed minimum training requirements defined in NAS 410, ATA 105, or ASNT-SNT-TC-1A for a Level 2 inspector in UT and PT.

• Responsible for accomplishing assigned inspection work on space flight system hardware, assemblies and vehicles.

• Shall be required to document inspection results in both paper and electronic forms as well as complete and sign work records in connection with work performed.
• Inspects parts, sub-assemblies and completed assemblies to the extent necessary to determine, accomplish and approve acceptability in accordance with written procedures.
• Will be required to, but not limited to be working on check aircraft.
• Assist with development of procedures and techniques for non-destructive testing of metallic and composite structures.
• Support training of other NDT personnel using hands-on knowledge from the vehicles via different mediums as appropriate.
• Excellent attendance, ability to work overtime, and other shifts as required.

REQUIREMENTS
• Must have successfully completed minimum training requirements defined in NAS 410, ATA 105, or ASNT-SNT-TC-1A for a Level 2 inspector in UT and PT. Training in other NDT methods is desirable.
• Must have recent, documented hours, working as a NDT inspector and have obtained sufficient experience to be certified in accordance with NAS 410, ATA 105, or ASNT-SNT-TC-1A.
• Must have strong working knowledge of composite aircraft and/or aerospace non-destructive testing processes in composite material.
• Ability to conduct inspections with limited supervision.
• Minimum 5 years aviation/aerospace industry experience desired.
• Excellent computer skills. Skilled in working in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience on narrow body and/or business jet aircraft preferred.
• Experience with composite aircraft is preferred although not required (commercial or military aerospace application).
• Must display maturity of action and judgment.
• Must be able to work under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

About the Role:

You'll Need:

Description:
As a Test Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services.
