Air Vehiclr Design Engineer

Description:
will assist with developing, planning, organizing and conducting complex design assignments on Aviation Defense and Special Missions aircraft. The candidate will perform duties as an Air Vehicle Design Engineer and Avionics and Electrical mechanical provisioning/installations. Air Vehicle Design Engineers will take responsibility for planning, optimizing, and executing complex aircraft structural design assignments and integration of LRU’s and Wire Harnesses. This will include the support of new product and sustaining designs and requires coordination with multiple technical stakeholders. Initiate designs or incorporate design improvements utilizing CATIA software with an emphasis on modeling and drafting, 3D model development in support of detail, assembly and installation layouts. Communicate and coordinate with technical disciplines, such as Manufacturing, Tooling, Structural Integrity, Aerosciences and Utility Systems. Peer drawing checking and the release of engineering documents, as well as day-to-day collaboration to resolve design conflicts and interferences. Support of Space Reviews (i.e. 3DX, CATIA V5/ V6 Model Management/Interference Checks). Support prototype aircraft assembly, which includes coordination with Experimental Engineering to support design interpretation and occasionally investigate and respond to problems in manufacturability. Define prototypes of systems components for testing; set up and run laboratory simulations. Assist in the creation of design reviews, test procedures and coordination of testing. Create presentations to convey test results, design issues, or trade study recommendations. Support the investigation and response to customer field service questions

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Incorporate new design and design improvements utilizing CATIA software with an emphasis on component integration, 3D modeling and drafting
3D model development in support of detail, assembly and installation layouts
• Communicate and coordinate with technical disciplines, such as Manufacturing, Tooling, Structural Integrity, Aerodynamics, and AES.

Detailed Job Description:
Butler is seeking manufacturing engineers to join a team responsible for creation of process plans for military aircraft derivative or modification programs. Candidates may come from a variety of industries including aircraft, spacecraft, maritime, or weapon systems.
Preferred candidate will have experience with Boeing aircraft programs and tools. Planning work packages are produced in MESci using the BOM and CAPP modules. Experience reading electrical pin out data from WIRS data preferred. Focus of role will be on electrical installation planning, which will primarily consist of wire harness installations and related systems, however, experience in planning for structures, hydraulics, fuel, oxygen, waste water, or ECS is a plus.
This role will report to Butler project leadership and will interact primarily within the Butler team of peers, project lead, and checkers. Uniquely qualified candidates may have checking or small team leadership experience. Candidates must be able to be granted Boeing system access.
Desired experience includes:
Experience in creation and/or revision of manufacturing process plans for aerospace assembly or installation.
Experience in creation and/or revision of manufacturing process plans for wire harness installation.
Familiarity with aerospace electrical connectors, electrical hardware, and mechanical fasteners.
Prior experience with Boeing processes and specifications. For example adhesives & sealants, electrical bonding & grounding, and fastener torque.
Prior experience with Boeing commercial aircraft: 737, 747, 777, 787.
Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Engineers learn production operations and the manufacturing discipline in a controlled environment. They develop manufacturing engineering skills, an understanding of manufacturing (cost, quality, safety, and schedule), and Raytheon systems and tools. MEs build technical depth in manufacturing processes and are accountable for improvement and optimization.
Primary responsibilities include developing the comprehensive manufacturing process for 3D metal parts for various radar, integrated sensor, and effector programs. The candidate will create, test, and upgrade Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs, develop and document fixturing and setups for CMM inspection, and create inspection plans. They will also assess process failures, disposition non-conforming hardware, and create and execute robust Root Cause/Corrective Action plans to permanently solve problems. This position requires close cooperation with the Operations team and other engineering disciplines. The desired candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be capable of working in a dynamic team environment.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
• Translate engineering design requirements into formal manufacturing process documentation including CMM programming, inspection planning, finishing requirements, and assembly instructions
• Support process improvements using data analysis, application of best practices, engaging with production personnel, and implementing innovative solutions to improve process capability and decrease cost
• Design, control, and improve the manufacturing process through collaboration with a multi-disciplined team
• Self-manage workload to support existing production, perform non-recurring engineering work for new products, and drive improvement projects to completion.
• Communicate effectively with Engineering and Operations leaders in department to ensure schedule needs are met and where any barriers to progress exist.
• Perform process development on new product introductions with an accelerated time to market
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and document standard methodologies and standard work for CMM and manual inspection operations
• Review metrology and statistical process control (SPC) data to identify and address potential defects before they occur
• Troubleshoot manufacturing issues alongside Quality and Operations personnel and apply CORE/6-sigma methods to determine Root Cause and apply Corrective Actions

Qualifications You Must Have:
• Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
• 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar field
• Knowledge of CMM programming and workpiece holding and manual inspection methodology
• 5+ years correctly interpreting engineering drawings, including ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances as well as typical government and industry specifications
