Engineering Design 2 - El Segundo, CA
3 month contract, to $75/hr BOE

Position is for an aerospace/defense client. United States citizenship and the ability to obtain & maintain a DoD Secret security clearance are required. Previous aerospace/defense experience and candidates who already hold a clearance are strongly preferred.

Aerospace/defense client is looking for an Engineering Design 2 to support their Tooling department. This position will serve on-site at El Segundo, CA.

The ideal candidate for this role will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaborating with internal and external customers. In this role you will design industrial tools, dies, gauges, drill & assembly jigs, fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for assembly, composite production or experimental use, considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements. This role works closely with manufacturing, operations, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure tooling meets quality, cost, schedule, and safety requirements. The candidate shall have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop tooling concepts and support equipment for new and existing programs
- Design tooling and equipment, including engineering drawings, inspection requirements, and verification plans
- Review designs for manufacturability, fit, form, and function
- Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards
- Make layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of structures
- Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
- Interface with internal customers and design review teams to ensure requirements are met
- Coordinates with manufacturing, operations, and process engineering to support program quality, delivery, and cost objectives - Manage tooling projects, including cost, schedule, procurement, and fabrication
- Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
- Support vendors during fabrication and inspect fabricated tooling for drawing compliance - Support continuous improvement initiatives and proactive problem-solving Safety, Process, and Compliance - Support investigations related to root cause analysis, non-conformances, and process failures

Basic Qualifications:
- Experience with industry standard design tools including NX CAD & CATIA
- Knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication processes & machine shop practices
- Experience with drawing release criteria and related documents for: Completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy - Correctness of materials and processes - Conformity to design/drafting standards (e.g. GD&T), design specifications, and practicability; - Economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation.
- Knowledge and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018)
- Knowledge and application of drawing weld symbols
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects, and resources
- Technical attention to detail
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance & special program access
- Bachelors Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and a minimum of 2 years relevant engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
- Experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and support equipment
- Experience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite parts
- Ability to evaluate vendor capabilities for tooling and aerospace part production
- Experience participating in developments project, establishing tooling SOW & design estimates.
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Experience with stress analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN
- Professional Engineering License
- Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years.

Position is for an aerospace/defense client.  United States citizenship and the ability to obtain & maintain a DoD Secret security clearance are required.  Previous aerospace/defense experience is strongly preferred.

Aerospace/defense client is looking for an Engineer Structural 3 to support our Tooling department on-site at El Segundo. We are looking for an engineer who has a structural analysis background to assist in generating the structural engineering analysis packages to demonstrate compliance of tooling fixtures such as assembly work stands & lifting jigs in an aerospace fabrication environment. The candidate shall analyze, research and provide input on product design, or operation of product involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability, stress fatigue, damage tolerance, durability & design allowables.

Responsibilities
The candidate is expected to be familiar with current fabrication/machine shop practices to provide guidance to engineers. It is essential that this person have the ability to work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation. In this role you will assist in the design of industrial tools, assembly structures, lifting jigs, composite dies, drill fixtures, machine attachments and equipment, required for production or experimental use.

Essential functions:
• Perform structural analysis via hand calculations and FEMAP/NASTRAN software
• Create reports in support of completed analysis as well as review reports of others
• Concise presentation and explanation of structural issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.
• Engage with other team members in meetings, 1:1’s and others in order to provide the right solution to complex engineering problems
• Evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications
• Static and dynamic analysis in support of Tooling fixtures and structures
• Identify and mitigate safety risks in accordance with company and state/government standards
• Develop and conceptualize designs using 3D modeling tools including NX & CATIA
• Create drawings for fabrication via CAD in compliance with ASME Y14.1-5 standards for fabrication.
Basic Qualifications:
• Analysis of simple to complex problems via hand calculations and FEA
• Experience with stress analysis techniques, concepts and practices
• Computer Aided Design Tools - Basic knowledge of computer aided design tools and systems (CATIA/NX).
• Engineering Drawings & Specs - Basic ability to create, read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications in accordance with ASME 14.5. Basic level understanding of GD&T
• Able to communicate with various levels of leadership, must be able to coordinate and resolve interpersonal and technical problems and must work well either in a team or independently with limited guidance
• Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance as well as special program access
• Bachelor’s (STEM) Degree with experience in medium to large scale tooling fabrication and/or production fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
• Professional Engineering License (preferably from California) or working to obtain PE
• Direct experience with Tooling mechanics and analysis relative to stress
• Experience with fabrication applying such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements.
• Current active DOD Secret clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 5 years
