Description:
Defines requirements for materials, parts and processes used in the manufacture of products. Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes. Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations. Promotes standardization across business activities. Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs. Develops and qualifies new materials, parts and processes to meet requirements. Integrates new technologies as appropriate. Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements. Conducts analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts or processes. Implements corrective and preventive actions. Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements. Works under general direction.

This document defines the guidelines for client MAF M&P requirements for MAF M&P Production Support Engineers. These requirements include, but are not limited to:
- The ability to generate specifications, test plans and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes
- Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations and promotes standardization across business activities
- Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
- Develops and qualifies new materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
- Integrates new technologies as appropriate
- Manages test and audit programs to quality suppliers to applicable requirements
- Conducts analysis to determine reasons for failures of materials, parts and processes
- Implements corrective and preventative actions responding to non-conformance conditions and RCCAs
- Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
The specific skills associated with these requirements should include:
- Materials and Process Engineering with focus on Thermal Protection (TP) and Thermal Protection Systems (TPS)
- This skill should include the knowledge of requirements leading up to and inclusive of spray on and pour applications in addition to substrate clean, water break free (WBF), prime, verification testing, TPS application and verification testing
- This skill should have a working knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes used to apply and verify system materials
- This skill needs to be effective and efficient in the preparation of planning documents used to guide and clarify processes used to compile manufacturing floor procedures
- Requires a working knowledge of production scale-up, process development, verification and validation in the manufacturing environment
- This skill will require the transition of material and process lab qualification data and requirements to efficient and effective manufacturing processes
- These skill requirements will be embedded in the client M&P Production Support Team and will work side by side with client M&P and NASA M&P Engineers
- Understanding and experience in contamination control and controlled work areas
- Working experience of processes and materials used in space flight vehicles such as bonding adhesives, films, tapes, coatings, primers, etc used in nominal, flight and cryogenic environments.
- Knowledge of metallurgical techniques associated with 2000 series aluminum alloys, Inconel understanding and recognition of corrosion in 2000 series aluminum alloys, stainless steel alloys, etc.
- Understanding of aerospace fasteners and applications

Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification.
