Operations Engineer II

Description:
Position Purpose:
• Work/Lead independently to prepare, conduct, and evaluate analyses for operations process optimization and problem solving for manufacturing issues (production methods and procedures) for a specific production process (including production sequence/flow, tooling and production equipment, layout, material fabrication, assembly methods and planning).

Must Haves:
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related curriculum required or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
• 18 months Manufacturing Engineering, planning, or related technical experience.
• Must be knowledgeable about Engineering configuration requirements, tooling, quality control, plant safety, blueprint reading, and shop math.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• For manufacturing process to which individual is assigned: provide and maintain detailed work instructions, drive quality improvements, efficiency improvements, material presentation enhancements, manage the daily work plan, provide metrics for quality and schedule performance, and coordinate engineering and tooling changes as required. to meet Operations goals.
• Perform RCCA analysis on quality defects ¿ average mechanic should be able to perform task first time with no rejections.
• Perform technical studies of a complex nature, conduct analysis of operations (existing or proposed). Define equipment/tooling needs and correct methods of manufacturing (including sequence of operations and detailed methodology of complex assemblies and installations as well as detail components) to optimize production process.
• Generate make-or-buy proposals and recommend corrective actions for areas of responsibility; evaluate vendors, attend vendor negotiations, and assist in resolving vendor problems.
• Conduct research, investigation, and analysis in connection with assigned planning or other assigned projects, to ensure conformance to requirements.
• Investigate and assist in preparing justification for equipment and facility improvements.
• Perform producibility studies from engineering drawings to identify opportunities to enhance manufacturing ability to meet requirements. Participate in Design for Manufacturing assessments with Engineering.
• Apply statistical methods to estimate future Manufacturing requirements and potential; make necessary computer inputs and generate data or reports as needed.
• Keep current on state-of-the-art manufacturing developments.
• Incorporate Lean Manufacturing Methodology into existing and future processes.
• Develop business case and present to management for process improvement approval.
• Provide training to OE I as required. in work methods and procedures and in the efficient and effective use of company resources to resolve work-related or quality problems.
• Independently lead/coordinate the implementation of projects among multiple organizations.
• Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to manufacturing methods as a team member or leader.
• Support all Safety, Sustainability and Ergonomic Initiatives.
• Aid in development and maintenance of Business Continuity Plan.

Other Requirements:
• Proven knowledge and understanding of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles and processes.
• Ability to influence across functional disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to operate computerized equipment, such as personal computers, CATIA, etc.
• Lean Specialist certification or higher preferred.

Manufacturing Engineer II

Description:
Essential Functions:
• Research, justify, select, and purchase capital equipment and/or processes.
• Learn to operate capital equipment purchased.
• Troubleshoot material and manufacturing problems.
• Optimize work sequencing and workflow through machines/work centers.
• Determine “make versus buy” decisions changing production methods to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
• Coordinate outsourcing of parts.
• Conceptualize tooling and fabrication designs.
• Develop and issue Manufacturing Engineering policies and procedures.
• Keep abreast of latest technologies in Manufacturing Engineering.
• Provide budgeting information and project updates/status to management.
• Utilize computer aided design (CAD) for layouts and line flow.
• Coordinate implementation of approved facility changes with Manufacturing, Facilities, Production Control, Quality Assurance, and Management.
• Conduct workflow, capacity, quantitative, and throughput analyses.
• Conduct cost analysis as required.
• Prepare and maintain various charts.
• Interface with machine operators, middle and upper management, and vendors.
• Promote and apply Lean Tools (5S,PFMEA, Root Cause Analysis); monitor effectiveness.
• Participate and/or Facilitate Kaizen events and train others on how to facilitate them.
• Measure Lean implementations results.
• Execute and promote problem solving to all levels of the organization.
• Train and coach plant staff in Lean tools and implementation.
• Perform other related duties as required.
• Drive design-for-manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) principles and contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies for prototype development.
• Ensure that all manufacturing processes adhere to industry standards, such as AS9100, and customer-specific requirements.
• Work closely with design and engineering teams to provide manufacturability feedback and optimize designs for production.
• Act as the primary technical liaison between internal teams and company stakeholders, addressing manufacturing concerns and risks.
• Lead manufacturing efforts for company’s prototype aero structures, ensuring alignment with project specifications and timelines.
• Develop and refine tooling concepts for low-rate production, balancing cost, quality, and lead time considerations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Avionics, or Manufacturing Engineering and seven years’ engineering experience, preferably in aircraft manufacturing. Computer aided drafting (CAD), Unigraphics II, Microsoft Project and Office computer program literacy, and experience using calipers, micrometers, and measuring equipment are required to perform the duties of this position. Possess a strong knowledge of DFMA principles and process optimization, 6 Sigma Yellow Belt

Physical Demands:
• Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform and accomplish tasks. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.

Mental Demands:
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Intelagree, LN, EAM, AS9100, ITAR, and lean manufacturing.
• General knowledge of all phases of aircraft design, approval, manufacturing, and service, all manufacturing processes and techniques relative to fabrication and assembly.
• Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions need to be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.

Basic Qualifications and Required Skills
