Description:
Communications, Network Systems, Affordability RESPONSIBILITIES: Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Broad ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives. Includes the ability to apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools. Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration. Exercises complete engineering judgment in developing appropriate decisions considering decision criteria, implications, and possible consequences, to ensure product design integrity. Demonstrates understanding of the applicable scientific and engineering knowledge and routinely includes company-wide subject matter experts to obtain good information for the engineering decision-making process. Broad knowledge of programming languages (e.g., C++, Matlab, Visual Basic, C, Assembly, C#, Java). Broad knowledge of modeling and prototyping tools (e.g., Matlab , MathCAD, manufacturer specific tools for signal processing software). Broad knowledge of computing equipment and its operating systems (e.g., Windows, Unix, Linux). Broad knowledge of software development and testing tools (e.g., editors, compilers, linkers, desktop simulations, configuration management tools, requirements management tools) capability and usage. Complete knowledge of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance. End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performance monitoring and diagnostic analysis. Complete knowledge of operational effectiveness analysis methodologies (e.g., mission and system effectiveness analysis) and tools (e.g., mission simulations; measure of effectiveness; human in the loop simulators, test facilities and operational evaluations). Complete ability to build computing systems from a variety of components to provide a business solution, including the ability to integrate application components and databases across computing platforms. Complete knowledge of systems design and scientific principles to develop, design, analyze, test, and validate solutions for complex systems and sub-systems. Broad working knowledge of the methodology and processes associated with risk management, and conducting trade studies, including cost as an independent variable (CAIV) trades. Ability to: identify and quantity potential risks areas within specific (depth), understand design constraints (technical, cost & schedule), identify and trade alternatives (i.e., trade studies), select/recommend the best plan for mitigating risks, implement/execute plans for mitigating risk, establish appropriate performance tracking metrics to track risk burndown over time. Ability to effectively utilize risk management tools (iso-risk charts/plots, waterfall, etc) to support program/project execution. SYSTEMS ENGINEERS-COMMUNICATION & NETWORKS SYSTEM ENGINEERING. Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. WORK HOURS: 7:30 - 4:00.
