There are currently 300,000 seats of CATIA V4 worldwide with 120,000 of them in the US. Current users of CATIA V4 include the majority of aircraft manufacturers and their vendors.
Dassault Systems introduced a new version of CATIA called CATIA V5 a few years ago. They have recently announced that they will no longer support the older V4 software. This will force the current users to switch to the new version of CATIA V5.
The main problem in switching current users to CATIA V5 is that it bears little resemblance to CATIA V4. It must be taught from scratch.
Ford is currently training 6,000 of its engineers to use CATIA V5. Toyota will follow suit. As the aircraft companies launch new airplanes they will most likely design them in CATIA V5 (Northrop Grumman/JSF).
There will soon be a shortage of CATIA V5 trained engineers.
Rillos Engineering offers a full curriculum of courses to teach engineers CATIA V5. Visit our website at www.v5train.com to see a full listing of our courses and training dates. We are located in Seatac, WA. Call Kaae at (206) 592-9924 for more information.
